Landlords oppose proposal to build student housing

When David Brandt bought his first apartment building when he was 18 years old, he thought he was starting on what might be his future career as a landlord.

Today, the 20-year-old college student isn't sure what the rental market will be like in the Stevens Point area in the next several years.

Brandt is one of many Stevens Point-area apartment owners opposed to a proposed 29-unit student housing complex at the former Cooper Motors site, 532 Division St. The city would give the developer, Stevens Point Housing Solutions, up to $50,000 to clean up the site.
