Moving the poor out of town doesn't solve poverty

Could all that be changing? The Government's shake-up of housing benefit and other reforms - including loosening restrictions on what councils and housing associations can charge tenants - could force many poorer families to move to cheaper housing further out from the centre. This week a report warned that almost half of primary school children in some parts of London could face being uprooted because of the housing benefit cap.

A report for Shelter earlier this year found that "most inner-London boroughs are likely to become almost entirely unaffordable to low income tenants on housing benefit by 2016". Boris Johnson has accused ministers of Kosovo-style "social cleansing". Read More:
