Squatting in residential buildings is now a criminal offence, but the law may prove complicated to enforce

The government's decision to introduce new legislation to criminalise squatting in residential buildings throughout England and Wales has been met much interest. Opponents on one side argue that there isn't enough hard evidence to justify the need for the new powers, while proponents on the other are calling for the legislation to be extended to include commercial properties.
